Prince Charming Regal Carrousel in the Magic Kingdom Getting Regal Refresh. The Magic Kingdom’s beloved Prince Charming Regal Carrousel is undergoing a small refurbishment! The carrousel (carousel, whichever way you want to spell it) attraction, has been a staple since the park’s opening in 1971, is receiving a fresh coat of paint, ensuring it continues to enchant guests for years to come.
We had a fun morning hanging around Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom and noticed some of the lights were missing, and a portion of the canopy on the inside was white with primer paint. Furthermore, the inside of the attraction is half covered in scrim cloth which matches the wall behind it. So it is not a major in-your-face change to the ride, it is still not the best time for photographs.
While the carrousel is getting a spiff-up, fear not, fellow fairytale enthusiasts! The ride itself remains open, offering you the chance to experience the ride even during the refurbishment. That means you can still climb aboard a magnificent white steed (all ninety of them are hand-carved maple!), gallop to the sounds of classic Disney tunes, and soak in the whimsical scenes adorning the canopy that tell the story of Cinderella.

This refurbishment is more than just a cosmetic touch-up. It’s a chance to preserve the carrousel’s rich history. Originally built in 1917, this beauty has graced the grounds of several parks before finding its forever home at the Magic Kingdom. The refurbishment ensures this piece of history retains its grandeur for future generations.
Whether you’re a seasoned Disney park-goer or a first-time visitor, the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel offers a delightful interlude. It’s a perfect way to slow down, capture a magical photo opportunity, and create lasting memories. So next time you’re in Fantasyland, don’t miss your chance to take a spin on this regal ride, even as it gets a touch of royal rejuvenation!
Here are some additional tips for your visit:
- Wait times: The carrousel can experience moderate lines, especially during peak seasons. Consider using Disney’s Genie+ service to save time waiting.
- Theming: While the name has changed from Cinderella’s Golden Carrousel, the core theme remains. Keep an eye out for the charming Cinderella scenes adorning the canopy.
- Photo ops: The carrousel itself and the Cinderella Castle looming in the background provide a perfect backdrop for a memorable Disney photo.
With its classic charm and ongoing refurbishment, the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel remains a must-do on your Magic Kingdom adventure. So saddle up and get ready for a royally good time!
