What is Coming to Monsters Inc. Land at Disney World? Goodbye, Mama Melrose and Pizza Rizzo, and Hello to Harry Housen's and Late Night Screams

What is Coming to Monsters Inc. Land at Disney World? Goodbye, Mama Melrose and Pizza Rizzo, and Hello to Harry Housen’s and Late Night Screams. With the announcement today that Muppet*Vision 3-D and The Muppets Courtyard will be officially replaced by the newly announce Monsters Inc. Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we are starting to get an idea of what will be a part of the new Land. As always, until it opens, things can and will change.

Just to catch you all up on The Muppets Announcement today by Disney – The Muppets are moving! Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem plus the Muppets gang will be taking over Rock ‘n Roller Coaster on Sunset Boulevard, while Monsters Inc. will be taking over the south side of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This was the news no one expected but had dreaded, the closing of Muppet*Vision 3-D will hit the community hard, but Disney had to do something to avoid fan backlash, so Muppets Coaster it is! (Up Yours, Max Goof and Powerline! we can finally put that rumor to rest for good)

While everyone will be talking about The Muppets, here at Fantasy Land News we decided to spend a few moments understanding what the new concept artwork for Monsters Inc shows, and I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised. Get ready to open the door because Mike and Sulley are coming to town! Building off the exciting announcements from last summer’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, the new land will include the coaster we’ve all dreamed of – a suspended ride recreating the door vault scene – plus dining and shopping and a whole new theater show.

We now know the whole Muppets Courtyard will be rethemed and replaced and expanded. Studio 1 store, Mama Melrose, and Pizza Rizzo’s are all closing. The Miss Piggy fountain will be a memory, along with the giant Kermits. Muppet*Vision 3-D will be removed from the building. This brings us to what WILL be a part of Monsters Inc. Land.

We already know a new Monsters Inc. suspended roller coaster is coming. This will be in the newly expanded section of Hollywood Studios. Disney goes on to say Shopping and Dining are coming to the Monsters Inc.-themed land. From the image shared, the new restaurant will be Harry Hausen’s (no word on if it will be a sushi bar!) Harry Hausen’s will be in the same location as Mama Melrose and Studio 1 Store are at now. It appears the entrance to Harry’s will be where Studio 1 is now, and they will use the cooking area of Mama Melrose. Muppet*Vision 3-D building will become The Monstro and a show called Late Night Screams is on the marquee.

But, if we look around a bit more we can see a billboard with Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor above the entrance to what is Pizza Rizzo’s. Could this just be an advertisement? Or is the show moving from Magic Kingdom over to Hollywood Studios? We do not think Disney Imagineering would put two shows in the new land, but as of right now, we can only speculate on that. You can see a closer look at the new Monsters-themed land below. Furthermore, Miss Piggy’s water fountain will be replaced by Mike Wazowski’s statue.

What is Coming to Monsters Inc. Land at Disney World? Goodbye, Mama Melrose and Pizza Rizzo, and Hello to Harry Housen's and Late Night Screams

Picking up after the events of Pixar’s beloved film, humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc. — and the monsters need laughter to power the city and keep it running smoothly. But it’s not a true visit without the factory itself. You’ll be able to see the sights, hear the laughs and zoom through the building just like James P. Sullivan (a.k.a. Sulley) and Mike Wazowski — via a door!

Yes, a door. If you’ve been dreaming of riding through the door vault since the movie was released in 2001, you’re not alone — Josh has been thinking about this, too. “The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley,” he told the crowd. “You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

The coaster will put you right in the middle of the monster action. Just be sure to fill out your paperwork! Roz is always watching…

Work on the project is slated to begin next year, so get ready to ROAR with laughter!

What do you think? Are we close? Do we have our bearings right? Is the Studio 1 store being removed completely?
