“Soarin’ Around the World”: Goodbye Fountain of Nations, Hello World Celebration – Newly Updated Attraction Video. Today was supposed to be all about the new Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Treasure, which had its first christening last night. Instead, here at Walt Disney World people are talking about how Soarin Around the World has finally been updated to add a new ending.
Disney Imagineering has tweaked the beloved attraction Soarin’ Around the World today by adding a new ending and making changes to the France section of the film. Epcot’s old Fountain of Nations scene used to be shown at the ending of the nearly 5-minute-long film attraction, even after Walt Disney World massively overhauled the central section of Epcot. Over the past 5 years, Disney removed the Fountain of Nations, and instead added gardens and lighting, becoming World Celebration.
Now the ride features the Eiffel Tower, and instead of flying over the Tower, you see it from a distance. The finale shows World Celebration, including CommuniCore Hall, flying over the updated Monorail and then over the new lighting and flower garden. The new World Celebration lighting package is on full display, along with the light towers. Tinkerbell still flies, fireworks still go off, and a hidden Mickey can still be seen over Spaceship Earth.
No word from Walt Disney Imagineering yet on how this update was done. Was it all just digitally added, or did they go back and film in IMAX? As for the Eiffel Tower section, it appears the film was slowed down to make up for the timing since you no longer fly over the Tower itself.
