Disney World’s Ski Slopes are Open Again at Blizzard Beach Water Park 2024. Our seasonal Water Park switch is upon us again. Typhoon Lagoon is now closed for refurbishment, and Blizzard Beach has opened as of November 4th, 2024. Blizzard Beach is considered our Ski Slopes. We do not get a real ski slope here in central Florida, but Disney World Imagineering sure has done a good job of making us feel like we are in a Swiss chalet, sitting around a fire, and getting ready to hit the slopes on a black diamond course.
Below you can read the story of Blizzard Beach, along with check out photos from opening day. Reminder there are also many ways you can experience the reopened water park here at Disney World. There is the new check-in day free visit to the parks, a water park annual pass for $74.00, the water park, and more options added to either a park hopper ticket or to your Disney World AP.

Chill out at this 66-acre water park, built around the mythical tale of a one-time ski resort that melted into soothing, warm water. Zip down the slushy slopes of Mount Gushmore on one of the world’s tallest and fastest free-fall waterslides. Float down a tranquil river and sunbathe on a white-sand beach. Children under 48 inches tall can splash around in their own water play area with a snow castle fountain and kid-sized waterslides.
Other favorite experiences include: Downhill Double Dipper, Toboggan Racers, and Tikes Peak
It was a meteorological phenomenon of the strangest order. One balmy day, a freak winter storm developed over the western end of the Walt Disney World Resort and covered the area with a thick blanket of powdery white snow. Before you could say “hot cocoa,” plans were underway for Florida’s first ski resort.
Ski lifts were put up, toboggan runs were laid down and an entire resort area blossomed around the mountain of snow. Yet before the first skier could strap on a pair of boots and stick their poles into the snow, the temperatures returned to their normal Florida levels and the powdery snow quickly turned into slippery slush.
The ski resort operators saw their dream melting down the hillside. Yet, that’s not all they saw. As the slush began cascading down and pools of water began to form, an echoing “yahoo” was heard from the summit of the mountain. Everyone looked up to see a playful alligator careening down the melting hillside. He slid to the base of the mountain and landed in a pool of water with a thunderous splash. They knew at once that they were back in business.
Slalom courses, bobsled and toboggan runs became downhill waterslides. The creek of melted snow that formed at the base of the mountain became a relaxing tube ride. The chairlift carried swimmers instead of skiers. The ski jump became the tallest and fastest water slide in the world. The ski resort became known as Disney’s Blizzard Beach, the most slushy, slippery, exhilarating water park anywhere!
We know one of the questions is about food, and yes, the mini donuts have returned and are open. Disney is also selling holiday treats for the next 2 months. Indulge your taste buds with brand-new menu items that bring both savory and sweet flavors. At Warming Hut, guests will find lunch and dinner options, including the new barbecue pork sandwich with bacon and fried onion straws on a brioche bun.
Sweet treats throughout the day include comfort flavors at Icee Expeditions with the new apple pie churro and praline sundae. For those already in the holiday spirit, the premium peppermint shake at Lotta Watta features a vanilla and chocolate milkshake with peppermint beverage syrup whipped cream, a brownie, and a cherry on top.
Blizzard Beach merchandise is for sale, along with all your needs for a family trip to a water park.
