Walt Disney Studios “Prince Charming” Movie in the Works with Wonka Director Paul King at the Helm. There are officially 13 Disney Princess movies, not including live-action remakes or equals. The Disney Princesses are featured in toys, video series, and at Disney theme parks. Yet, the Disney Prince has not received their own movie in a long time.
It can be argued that The Lion King and Alladin are the two Princely Disney Movies, with some arguing that Tarzan and Hercules could fall under the Prince umbrella, but Herc is a demi-god and not next in line to rule, and Tarzan…I don’t know. And truthfully, Alladin was a street rat, who used a Genie to turn himself into a Prince. I have heard others argue that Treasure Planet is a Disney Prince movie, the same as Emperor’s New Grove, and now I need to rewatch them. But, the thing is, there are nowhere near enough Disney Prince movies.
We could go deeper and say Sword in the Stone may be considered a Prince, but Wart pulled the sword to become King, he skipped right past Prince. Maybe Prince and the Pauper?
Well, that is about to change, as Variety reports that Walt Disney Studios, along with Paul King, who also Directed Wonka, is directing “Prince Charming” for Disney. King, Simon Barnaby, and Jon Croker are co-writing the screenplay, of which plot details have not been confirmed. It’s unclear if the film will be live-action or animated.
Updated today that star Chris Hemsworth is in talks to play the title role of Prince Charming. Deadline has reported “Chris Hemsworth is in talks to star as the titular character in Disney‘s new Prince Charming movie, which has Paul King on board to direct. Deadline first reported last week that King was developing the pic, and can now confirm that Hemsworth is in talks to play the iconic character. Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker are co-writing along with King. The film is in development.”
According to reports, the film will not be directly tied to Cinderella, the tale Prince Charming originally hails from.
