Earlier today, Deadline posted that Adele Lim, the acclaimed writer-director of Joy Ride, is set to helm the third installment of Disney’s beloved Princess Diaries franchise. Anne Hathaway has confirmed on her Instagram account that the movie is happening. No word from Julie Andrews if she will return to her role as Queen Clarisse Renaldi.
Lim, who previously contributed to Disney’s animated hit Raya and the Last Dragon, will bring her unique storytelling style to the iconic series. The project marks her second directorial venture following the critically acclaimed Joy Ride.
Debra Martin Chase, the producer behind the original films, will reprise her role, while Naia Cucukov, Melissa Stack, and Flora Greeson will also contribute to the creative team.”
With no official word from Disney to verify the report, we went off their reporting hoping this would be true. Now we have an official word from The Princess Diaries star, Anne Hathaway who played the role of Mia Thermopolis a shy teenager who discovers she’s the heir to a European monarchy. Anne Hathaway just posted to her Instagram Account:
“Miracles happen ✨👑 Back to Genovia with @adeleblim @disney @somewherepictures. The fairy tale continues ❤️🔥” basically giving it away that officially The Princess Diaries 3 is now in the works. Her production company Somewhere Pictures is attached to the film.
