Lunch Among the Stars in Epcot: A Space 220 Experience

Space 220 is different from your ordinary restaurant at Walt Disney World. It’s an immersive adventure that blasts you 220 miles above Earth for a truly out-of-this-world dining experience.

I am not a food critic, and your experience may differ, but I have thoughts to hopefully blast you in the right direction (See what I did there?) and I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express. Seriously though, these reviews are about steering people in the right direction. Whether it is to save you and your family some money or to give your family the best bang for your buck, Furthermore, it is about showing you a little bit of the experience.

Space220 has been open now for over 2.5 years, and the menu has only adapted over that time. We have not seen a change in the atmosphere of the restaurant, which is a great thing. Small changes to the menu, and the trading cards. Also, the addition of lounge seating, which does not include the prix fix prices has made Space220 a stand-out, fully themed, immersive restaurant that you expect from a restaurant at Disney World. The argument can be made that The Patina Restaurant Group came into Epcot crossed its arms in front of its chest and stood firm. This is the place to eat!

Special Thanks to Sam at SamsDisneyDiary for the lunch!

The Stellar Arrival

The magic begins even before you reach the “restaurant.” Your journey starts by boarding the “Stellarvator,” a simulated space elevator. As you ascend, virtual screens transform the surroundings, giving the illusion of rocketing into space. Gaze out the “windows” and witness Earth shrink into a breathtaking blue marble against the blackness of space.

A World of Flavor Awaits

Once docked at Space 220, prepare to be dazzled by the panoramic views of our planet. The restaurant’s vast windows offer a breathtaking vista, making you feel like you’re dining in a luxurious space station. But the magic doesn’t stop there. The lunch menu boasts a delectable prix fixe experience at a significantly more affordable price point compared to dinner. For $55, you get a two-course meal, which is a steal considering the ambiance and top-notch quality. Dinner, on the other hand, is a three-course affair priced at $79

Fueling Up for Your Space Odyssey

Adding another layer of fun to the experience is Space 220’s unique drink menu. You can order beverages paired with special collectible trading cards. Each card features stunning space art and a description of the corresponding drink. It’s a fantastic way to commemorate your visit and a great conversation starter!

A Culinary Adventure

Now, let’s delve into the deliciousness that awaits your taste buds. My lunch odyssey began with a shared appetizer platter featuring both the Buffalo Cauliflower and the Starry Calamari. The cauliflower, a vegetarian twist on a classic, offered a delightful interplay of textures with its crispy tempura coating and the creamy, spicy buffalo sauce. The Starry Calamari was equally impressive, boasting perfectly fried calamari rings served with a tangy Italian cherry pepper marinara and a cooling roasted pepper citrus aioli.

For the main course, I opted for a delightful combination – the Steak Frites and the Galactic Miso Glazed Salmon. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, juicy and flavorful, accompanied by crispy golden fries. The salmon, a signature dish, was a revelation. The miso glaze imparted a unique savory-sweet depth, complementing the perfectly cooked fish. Every bite was a symphony of flavors.

A Stellar Conclusion

No space adventure is complete without a sweet ending. While desserts are not included in the lunch prix fixe, you can add them on a la carte. But for this visit, I opted to savor the aftertaste of the magnificent meal, my mind still buzzing from the stunning views and delectable dishes.

I had regrets the moment I left Space220. I should have ordered dessert. Chef Michael Gabriel who oversees the pastry department has come up with some rather tasty treats across all the Patina Restaurant Group eateries around Disney World.

Space 220 lunch is an unforgettable experience that combines exquisite food, breathtaking ambiance, and a dash of space-age fun. Whether you’re a die-hard space enthusiast or simply seeking a unique and delicious dining experience, Space 220 is sure to leave you starry-eyed.

My Final thoughts on Space220 are simple. This is what Star Wars Galaxies Edge should have adapted and made into a sit-down restaurant. Disney has dropped the ball recently on themed places to eat, but Space220 has picked up the ball and ran with it.

DINING THAT SOARS

Space 220 is a first-of-its-kind, fully immersive dining experience serving upscale, contemporary fare aboard the Centauri Space Station. Suspended just beyond the orbit of Mission: SPACE, visitors can only reach their destination by riding on the restaurant’s cutting-edge space elevator, the “Stellarvator,” 220 miles above Earth’s surface.

This trailblazing technology transports guests on a thrilling simulated expedition that provides stunning views of Earth by day and night as they rise into the stratosphere. Once docked, travelers can dine on chef-created prix fixe menus for lunch and dinner featuring the finest flavors in the galaxy. Based on recipes inspired by the wonders of our solar system, an out-of-this-world culinary odyssey is guaranteed.
